Criminal Defense Visual Branding: Guides by SBD Marketing

People choosing a defense lawyer after an arrest can’t judge legal skill from a screen, so they judge what they can see. These guides explain how logos, color, type and photography make a defense firm look established and easy to trust.

Defense Firm Branding Guides

How Visual Branding Makes Criminal Defense Law Firms Look More Trustworthy

Our main guide covers logos that stay readable on a phone, a small color palette with real contrast, fonts that read as calm, attorney photos in place of stock gavels, keeping the look the same on Google and directories, and the bar advertising rules that apply to images and video.

How SBD Marketing puts visual branding to work

SBD Marketing works only with criminal defense law firms, and only with one firm per city. Branding is part of the website and search work we do for each firm.

  1. Defense firm websites built around trust
Clean layouts, readable type, real attorney photography and a call button that is easy to find on a phone, designed for people searching under stress.
  2. A Google Business Profile that matches the website
Logo, cover photo, office photos and firm details set up to match your site, so the map listing and the website look like one firm.
  3. Consistent details for search and AI tools
The same firm name, contact details and descriptions across your site and directories, which helps Google and AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Perplexity describe your firm correctly.

Five visual checks for your defense firm

Each of these takes a few minutes. Do them on your phone, since that’s where most people will see your firm first.

Shrink your logo

Look at your logo in your Google Business Profile and your browser tab. If the firm name is unreadable at that size, ask for a simpler version.

Count your stock photos

Note every gavel, handcuff or generic suit photo on your site. Replace the ones on your home, attorney and contact pages first.

Test your text contrast

Run your body text and button colors through a free contrast checker. Normal text should meet at least 4.5 to 1.

Compare your profiles side by side

Open your website, Google profile, bar listing and LinkedIn together. Logo, photos and firm name should match on all of them.

Look at the footer

Check the copyright year, phone number and address. Small out-of-date details make visitors wonder what else is out of date.

How we put these guides together

Each guide draws on published standards such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, Google’s documentation for Search and Business Profiles, the ABA Model Rules on lawyer advertising, and what SBD Marketing sees building websites for defense firms. Design tools and platform rules change, so every guide notes when it was last updated. Criminal Defense Visual Branding is researched and published by SBD Marketing.
